Windows 10: Can I restore backup image without a DVD? So far not successful.

I created a system image using backup and restore (windows 7) tool on windows10 to an external HDD. Now, I want to restore the system back from it. When I go to system back up, it says



"To restore this computer, Windows needs to format the drive that the Windows Recovery Environment is currently running on. To Continue with the restore, shut down this computer and boot it from a Windows isntallation disc or a system repair disc and then try the restore again. if you dont have a system repair disc, you can create one now"



Although I am using an USB stick to access to the recovery environment, it still gives me the same error. I dont have a DVD drive.

Is there a way to restore my system without a DVD?



Alternatively, I tried to load system image as a virtual disk and cloned the virtual drive to another disk (D using a cloning tool. This way it wont boot from that drive.



I spent a couple of hours and still cannot find a way to restore from a backup. Very annoying.

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.

 

backup protected dvds

I want to create backup copies of my favorite DVD collections and I tried Nero but it said that the DVDs are protected. I tried looking for another software and I found this list of DVD copy software that claimed to be the best for copying protected DVDs. I need a feedback from someone who has tried using any of these software before I'll buy one. I just want to make sure so I can burn my DVDs and not my money. If you have any other suggestions or recommendations I would really appreciate it.

 

installing windows 10 backup and restore later

1. Backup Vista
2. Upgrade Vista->Windows 7 -> Windows 10. Get activated.
3. Backup Windows 10.
4. Clean Install Windows 10. Make sure still activated
5. Backup a fresh copy of Windows 10
6. Restore

To perform step 4 i will need to have downloaded an iso and create a dvd or usb to boot from.....so will not this ISO be ok and the one you mention ?
