Windows 10: Can I run Windows 10 home on my old acer laptop?

Hi! I recently brought my old laptop back to life and was wondering if I could run Windows 10 home on it. It's currently running Windows 8.1, which I never really could adjust to very well. The laptop is an acer aspire e1 series v5we2 with the following hardware specsrocessor: Intel Core i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz 2.30 GHzRAM: 6,00 GB 5,88 GB usableSystem type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processorNo pen or touch input available for display.Now, I should point out that the computer is kinda slow and I've also considered actually downgrading to Windows 7 if that would make more sense i

Acer Laptops :are they crap ?

Acer makes a cheap prodcut period. They user lower end plastics, as well as assembly. (I hate working on Acer laptops)

If budget is an issue then get an acer... though for $50 more you could get a gateway that will smoke the acer in terms of quality.

For a laptop though i would suggest one of the DV7T's from HP or a Business class Toshiba/HP/IBM (not the lenovo branded, the Thinkpads)

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Old Laptop running XP> Linux?

Here are three to choose from base on file size from small to large.

1. Puppy
   • This is a small OS that will run on many old laptops.

   • This is a medium size that will run most old laptops.

3. Ubuntu
   • This is a full size that will run on laptops that meet the specs.
   • Enterprise Open Source and Linux | Ubuntu

All of them can be put on CD or USB if your computer can boot from USB. After that, you can run it live without installing it on the hard drive. If you like it, than you can install it but make sure to make a backup of your hard drive.
