Windows 10: Can I transfer 1999 MS Money to the 2005 version?

I need to figure out how to get my 1999 MS Money to a version that will convert to Quicken. It won't convert automatically. It says to use the Sunset version which we are not able to find successfully. We then bought 2007 versions of money but think we may need another version between 1999 and 2007 to gradually work our way up. We see information on the Internet that 207 or 2008 will convert to Quicken. Does anyone know how to help us?My 1999 version is working on my new Windows 11 but we've been told that it may go dead. Does anyone know about that? That's the reason I'm in a panic.

MS MONEY 2005

I was using MS Money 2005 with Win10 and then had a problem running the program - "the system cannot find file specified wkerning.dll".

I uninstalled MS Money 2003 from CD but cannot find the link to download MS Money 2005? Can anyone advise please?

 

MS Money 2005 Update

To provide an update on the problem that I was having (couldn't run MS Money 2005 after a Windows Update), I tried most of the solutions suggested on this page and on another website without any success. At this point, I'd reconciled myself to not having a solution and moved on to using MS Money from another PC (not ideal, but at least it worked there). This has been the situation for the last 4-5 months.

Then, a couple of days ago, my PC did another major Windows update to v1903 (took about 6-7 hours to upgrade) and then, lo and behold, MS Money was working again. I didn't touch anything else, so I'm pretty sure it was the update that fixed it. Still think something was locked under the old version which caused the issue but, whatever it was, this has made my day!

MS Money 2005 Update

There appears to be something odd with your installation. Other ideas:

1. Uninstall the offending Windows update, check Money operation then reinstall the update with Money closed
2. Recover from the last working backup - I use Macrium Reflect. Else try System Restore to an earlier date when Money was working
3. Do an in place repair install

PS are you opening Money by clicking on a link to your money file or to msmoney.exe? If the former fails and msmoney.exe runs then you might have a corrupt money data file.
