Windows 10: Can I transfer my Licence for Microsoft 365 family to a new computer?

I will soon upgrade my computer and not continue using my old one. Can you tell me what I need to do to continue using my Microsoft 365 family?

Transfer Windows 10 Licence from Old/Dead Computer to New Computer

Depends on the licence you have. How did you get your Windows 10 licence, was it via the free upgrade and was the previous system installed by the manufacturer = OEM.

OEM licences cannot be transferred, generally but recent posts suggest MS is allowing some transfers.

Retail boxed licence can be transferred to a new device.

New motherboard = new device.

 

Microsoft: Upgraded Motherboard = New Windows Licence

Microsoft recently made a change to the licence agreement saying that a new motherboard is equal to a new computer, hence you need to purchase a new Windows licence.Here is what Microsoft has to say:

Microsoft sent a memo to its OEM partners asking them to enforce this new policy, every time they upgrade a computer for a client.

.1 Remove the current Microsoft app from your computer.

2. Log in to your Microsoft 365 family plan in a web browser.

3. Click on "Install Office" > Choose "Other Install options."

4. A new window will open; click on "Apps & devices" and then on "Install Office."

5. Once Office is installed successfully, log in with your 365 family plan.

6. Restart the app and check for the issue.

7. Open Word > Go to File > Account > Enter your 365 family plan.
