    Hello all, I have a laptop that came with windows 10 preinstalled. The issue is that this laptop is painfully slow, so I would like to transfer windows 10 from this laptop to another laptop that I have which only has abuntu installed on it. Is this possible? If it is not, I was thinking of buying windows 7 for the laptop that has abuntu installed on it, but the CD drive does not work. would there be a way to install windows 7 on it if the CD drive does not work? thank you in advance!

    Preserve and transfer current Windows 10 Home OS to a different laptop

    It came from a free upgrade from windows 8 that it came pre-installed in my laptop. So i guess this is considered OEM and i wont be able to transfer the license to another laptop correct?

    transfering Windows 10 digital license to new laptop.

    If your original Windows 7 was a retail licence then you can de-activate Windows 10 on your old laptop and activate Windows 10 on your new laptop.

    If it was an OEM licence (came with the laptop pre-installed) then you cannot transfer it to the new laptop and will have to purchase a licence . . .

    Will your new laptop not have Windows 10 pre-installed, most do nowadays and will activate automatically . . .

    Windows 10 OEM, transfer from one dell laptop to dell desktop

    You can not legally do what you want to do:

    Windows 10 OEM, transfer from one dell laptop to dell desktop

    OEM Licenses can NOT be transferred.

    If the Laptop/Computer came with the Windows Operating System preinstalled (Dell, HP, Acer, etc) , that Product Key that came with the Laptop/Computer is for the preinstalled OEM License and is non-transferable.

    The OEM License/Product Key (preinstalled Operating Systems on Dell, HP, etc machines) is tied to the first machine it is installed on and dies when that machine dies.

    The above rule also applies to OEM System Builders Licenses.

    Retail Operating System License, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

    But Retail Licenses can also only be installed on one machine at any particular time.
