Windows 10: Can I use 1709 with the latest security updates?

I mainly prefer 1709 due to the old desktop switcher, the grey search box in the taskbar, the pitch black taskbar (am I just missing something or can you seriously not choose that color on newer builds?) and the more complete control panel.

I am now getting the Education version of 1709 since it is being supported until April of this year but can I somehow just install the latest security updates while blocking feature updates after the official support ends?

What is the latest stable build of Win10 ?

If your not willing to run the latest V1803 build then I'd suggest sticking to v1709 from here Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709 Download • Windows ISO pick the one most applicable to you

 

Unable to update Windows 10 Pro version 1709 to 1803

Have made several attempts to update Windows 10 version 1709 to the latest version 1803 and have not been successful.

I've done the following per some suggestions found online:

• Updated drivers
• Ran the Trouble Shooter for Windows 10 (Errors found were shown to be "Fixed" per the tool)
• Unplugged the printer

Although not at every attempt, I have received the following errors:

• 0xc1900101
• 0x80070643

Can someone please advise me as to what the errors are and provide me with the steps to update Windows.

• Ran the DISM.exe

Although not at every attempt, I have received the following errors:

• 0xc1900101 - 0x30018
• 0x900704c7

Can someone please advise me as to what the errors are and provide me with the steps to update Windows.
