    can i use a flash drive for windows update?


    I have been trying to update my windows on my laptop HP Stream and it keeps saying that I don't have enough disk space to continue with the update... I practically deleted everything so I was wondering if I could use my flashdrive so I will quit getting this annoying "I need to update" notification everytime I use my laptop!!! please and thank you for the help!

    Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

    As per the description I understand that you are unable to backup Quicken files on the USB flash drive after the latest update.

    Do let us know the following to understand the issue and assist you better:

    • Which was the latest update had been installed on your device?
    • Is the flash drive detected on your operating system?
    • What are the troubleshooting steps you have performed while trying to resolve this issue?
    • Is the flash drive being detected on any other device?

    As a workaround, I suggest you to connect the flash drive to different USB ports and check if it is detected.

    Step 1: I suggest you to Run Hardware troubleshooter as it will help in resolving the issues with hardware and resolve any simple issues found.


    • Press Windows
      key from the keyboard, type Troubleshooting and select it.

    • Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
      Troubleshooting window.

    • Select the Hardware and Device
      options from the list.

    • Click Next to run the
      Hardware and Device
      Troubleshooter.

    Step 2: I suggest you to install all the pending updates after upgrade to Windows 10.


    • Connect to the internet.

    • Press Windows
      key and type updates.

    • Click on Check for updates.

    • Under Windows Updates, click on
      Check for updates.

    • Try to install the updates being shown.

    CD to flash drive

    Hi Pam,

    There are several ways to copy your pictures from the CD to the Flash drive. One of which is by using the shortcut keys to copy and paste it.

    We suggest following the steps below:

    • Insert the CD and flash drive to your PC.
    • Use Cortana and type File Explorer then click it.
    • Choose This PC.
    • Open the CD drive.
    • If all the pictures are in a specific folder, press Ctrl + A
      on your keyboard to automatically choose all the pictures then, press Ctrl + C to copy it.
    • Afterwards, Open the Flash drive, choose the location where you want to copy the pictures then press
      Ctrl + V to paste it.

    One way on how to save and move files to a flash drive is by using the File Explorer in Windows 10. To assist you with your concern, to save your movie file to a flash drive, we suggest that you follow these steps:

    • Connect your USB flash drive to your PC.
    • Navigate to the folder or location where you save your movie files.
    • Right-click on the movie file and select
      Copy
      .
    • Right-click on the Start menu, and select
      File Explorer.
    • On the left-pane, double-click on This PC.
    • Double-click on the drive letter that correspond to your USB flash drive.
    • Right-click and select Paste.
    • Wait for the process to complete the transfer.
    • Once you’re done, you can safely remove your USB flash drive.
