Windows 10: Can I use a Plug and Play external DVD drive for my HP laptop with Windows 11 S mode?

Hello,I purchased and set up my new HP Envy x360 laptop with Windows 11 S mode. I need to use an external DVD drive for a course I enrolled in. I learned I cannot use an external DVD drive with Windows 11 in S mode. A representative from HP support told me I could use their HP external DVD drive because it has Plug and Play PnP technology. Is this true? For that matter, can I use any brand for the external DVD drive as long as it has PnP technology?I would greatly appreciate your feedback.P.S. For security reasons, I do not want to switch out of Windows S mode.

windows 11 dvd external drive

I have a HP Envy laptop. Since installing Windows 11, I am no longer able to play DVDs on my external drive. Windows Explorer sees the drive but neither VLC or Leawo can actually play the disk. HP Support tells me this is a Windows 11 issue.

 

How to access external drive DVD player

I have a Surfacebook and windows 10. I just plugged in an external CD/DVD drive. It's listed under "Connected Devices" but I don't know how to access it, play the DVD. Where are the controls?
