Windows 10: Can I use a system image to restore Windows 10 on different but hardware wise identical laptop?

I just bought a new laptop and installed Windows 10 Pro. Unfortunately the battery is defect and I will receive a new Laptop from the dealer.


Can I use a system image to restore Windows 10 on this laptop? This laptop will have the exact same hardware. Reason is of course that I installed a lot of different software/apps and don't want to go through the hassle again.


I now that system backup is intended to be used on the same device, however I have some hope, because I once had a similar problem and what I did, was at that time to transfer the hard drive from the old laptop to the new laptop. That worked like a charm.

Best way to make a bootable Windows 10 image on USB with all existing software, drivers & configurations to deploy on exactly identical hardware?

There is no difference in the hardware we want to deploy that image on.

Planning to deploy this image on over 4000 desktops of same hardware configuration and make and model.

Is there a freeware/opensource/free software that we can use for this purpose commercially?

can you suggest a solution and KB article where it's step by step explained how to achieve it or do it?

 

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.

• How are you trying to restore the system image?
  
• Is the version of your system image identical to the architecture of Windows installed?
  

Note: A
32-bit version of system image cannot be restored on a 64-bit
Windows operating system.



This error usually occurs if a 32-bit version of system image is tried to be accessed on a
64-bit Windows environment. The reason being, device drivers designed for the
32-bit version of Windows won’t work on computers running
64-bit version of Windows. I suggest you to check if the architecture of Windows and the system image are identical. If the issue is happening on an identical version of Windows, respond to us with the answers to the questions above.
