Windows 10: Can I use an external monitor as my primary monitor even when I restart my laptop?

I have a lenovo ideapad 320, so it's a little bit old and the problem is its screen already has a crack on one corner. I can still use it and as a matter of fact, it's what I'm using while writing this question. I want to know if I can connect my laptop to an external monitor to become its primary monitor even if I restart or shut down my device? Because for what I know is if I use an external monitor to become its primary monitor and then shut down the device because I'm done using it, I will have to set it up again the next time I use my device which I cannot do if the screen of my laptop to

How to make external monitor as primary monitor?

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand that you want to make the external monitor connected to the laptop as a primary display and do not want to mirror the laptop display.

We would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + P, and select
   Extend.
   
2. Now, press Windows key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
3. Click on System, and select
   Display on the left pane.
   
4. Now, under Rearrange your displays, click on Identify to
   Identify the displays.
   
5. Click on the display number that is for external monitor.
   
6. Scroll down, and click on the checkbox for
   Make this my main display.

wont recognize laptop as primary monitor

Hey i plugged in my external monitor to my laptop, now the laptop wont screen isnt being recognized as primary display so the only way i can use the laptop is by plugging it into the external monitor. How can i fix this?

 

Laptop External Monitor Problem

Thank you once again, I will explain:

• Today 10th November 2016 - After monitor eventually successfully connects to my HP laptop, in my absence when the laptop/monitor powers off, I get NO re-connection problems during the day
• Tomorrow 11th November 2016 - After laptop and monitor has been restarted following, shut-down, power offs(laptop + monitor) I will be stuck once again with exactly the same problem

In my display settings each morning, my HP laptop shows it is connected to my external monitor, however there is no display on the external monitor for a vast amount of time, just randomly suddenly appears.?
