Hi, I am trying to understand if I can log via Remote Desktop in to my son's powerful gaming desktop with Windows 11 Pro while he plays games on it. I figured out how to enable Remote Desktop and logged in but it forces the local user to log out/lose control when i log in with Remote Desktop. I just need to browse the web and do other non-intensive tasks. I found another thread dated February 13 that gives step by step instructions on how to enable this but it's not working for me and i don't understand the last step where it says to remove the windows password. Use Remote Desktop while als

Use Remote Desktop while also logged in. Windows 11 Pro

Hello, I'm Felipe and I'm an independent Community Expert, and I'll do my best to help you.

I understand that you're facing issues while trying to use remote desktop while being logged in on Windows 11 Pro.

By default, Windows only allows one active session at a time. This means that if you log in using Remote Desktop, you will be logged out of the local session. However, you can configure your system to allow multiple active sessions by enabling Remote Desktop Services and Terminal Services.

Here's what you can try to resolve the issue:

    Enable Remote Desktop Services:

    Open the Control Panel.

    Go to System and Security.

    Click on System.

    Click on Remote Settings.

Under Remote Desktop, select "Allow remote connections to this computer."

    Enable Terminal Services:

    Open the Services console (services.msc)

    Locate the "Terminal Services" service

Right-click on it and select "Properties"

Change the startup type to "Automatic"

Start the service if it is not already running

    Restart your computer

    Configure group policy:

Open the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)

Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Connections

Enable the "Allow users to connect remotely using Remote Desktop Services" policy.

    Disable the password prompt:

    Open the Control Panel.

    Go to User Accounts.

Click on "Change your Windows password."

    Click on "Remove password."

Follow the prompts to confirm the change.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue and you're able to use Remote Desktop while being logged in on Windows 11 Pro. If the issue persists, you may want to consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.

Remote Desktop - Remote Computer is Sleeping

Got a question that I could answer if I was at the office to try it... Trying to connect remotely to an HP desktop at work.

If the HP is in sleep mode, I can't remote into it. Here's the scenario: Couldn't remote into the HP... Called a co-worker he noticed is was in power saving mode & moved the mouse, it woke up. Then I was able to remote in.

Would "Wake on Lan" in BIOS allow me to wake up the computer through a remote desktop login request? Are there other settings?

EDIT: Both PC's on XP Pro 32
