Windows 10: Can I use SSD with OEM license of windows in new pc?

    Can I use SSD with OEM license of windows in new pc?


    I have a laptop with an OEM license of windows and I plan on getting a new pc soon. I understand that OEM licenses are not transferable between pcs but if I take the SSD with that copy of windows and install it into the new pc will I be able to boot into windows on that SSD with a deactivated license until I purchase a new product key? Or will windows refuse to boot on that SSD? And does the answer apply to windows 11 as well?

    Good day.

    Hello.

    I have one SSD-OLD installed on PC-OLD with Windows OEM license activated previously. I'm building a PC-NEW, and will be re-using the SSD-OLD.

    Hence the question:

    1) Can I install SSD-OLD into PC-NEW, boot it up and then activate with a new Windows OEM license?
    2) If no, does it means that I need to format SSD-OLD, reinstall Windows, and then activate with new OEM license?
    3) Or, I get a different SSD-NEW, install Windows and activate with new OEM license. Then, setup SSD-OLD to PC-NEW for activation.

    I can buy new OEM license, so it is not an issue. My worry is on the data in SSD-OLD.

    Any method to transfer SSD-OLD to PC-NEW?

    Any advice is much appreciated.

    wanna ask, I just bought new laptop with Installed OEM Windows 10 SL inside,

    Then I wanna replace my HDD into SSD *upgrade.

    So can the OEM licensed used again in the new SSD ? or What should I do to transfer the OEM licensed from the HDD into new SSD, is it possible ? Thanks

    Thank you so much with the quick respond. I'll try out both the SSD on the new and old system for new OEM activation; very very reluctant to re-setup everything all over again on new PC.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but assuming that I have activated one OEM license on a PC, regardless of how many times I change the SSD or formatted the SSD, it'll always be automatically activated with the OEM license that was initially registered with the PC. Yes?
