I manually disconnect and reconnect either my Win10 HD or WinXP HD, depending on which OS I need. I should be able to leave both connected, and just change the boot order via the bios settings at boot up, correct?t

Accessing BIOS (boot order) in WIN10

This may help some. This is what the Boot tab in MY BIOS looks like.
The "Boot Priority" items are the "order" in which things will boot... by default.

Off the bottom of this screen, there is also a list of bootable items (sort of like the Boot Menu, in the pic above.
I can just click on whichever one I want to boot from.

Depending on the motherboard manufacturer, things might be labeled differently on your computer.
Generally, I set the "Boot Priority" in the BIOS to start with Windows, then I ignore the rest of the items.

If I want to "pick" which device to boot from, one time... I use the Boot Menu. Which I think is a lot easier.
For folks with different laptops or computers or motherboards, here is the full list of the key(s) to press to get into the BIOS or to bring up the Boot Menu, outside of the BIOS.

For regular DIY motherboards, make sure you scroll down to the "motherboards" section.

Sometimes, a manufacturer will just not make the BIOS accessible.
But there still has to be a way to change the boot order.

It may be that on your desktop, you can ONLY access the Boot Menu, as in post #2.

It's Esc or F9 ...to get to the Boot Menu

Making a Win XP PRO 32bit SP3 into a dual boot Win XP/Win10 system

    MeanSpitfire,

"When in Win 10, File Explorer shows Win 10 in F:.

When in Win XP, Windows Explorer shows Win XP in C:."

Just to reassure you - that is perfectly possible and is not an indication of a fault or associated with any faults you are experiencing. I have had a Win7-Win10 dual boot showing these same unexpected drive letters for a year without any problems [in win10,
OS drive is F; in Win7, OS drive is C].
