Can import video from camera via 1394 interface

I'm trying to import footage from a Sony HVR-A1 camera but I'm getting 'Device Error' when I try to import:

I know the camera is fine as I can import on an old (2009) MacBook Pro.

Firewire (1394) - Video editing software not working in Win 10

Since installing Win 10 I have had so many problems, mostly listed on here, however my latest one is Firewire (1394) and Video editing software (all progs I have, Magix, Wondershare and Ulead) now no longer recognise my Video camera and all say Could not
connect to selected device. I have installed the legacy 1394 drivers (as used on Win 8 and 8.1)

Initially they did work but would not recognise my specific Vid Camera but defaulted to a MSI default interface, however that did seem to just about work, since "many"Win 10 Cumulative updates the problem has got worse, so now nothing works, any ideas from
anyone (sensible and simple please) or any help from Microsoft would be welcome but I guess that is very unlikely...!

    Thanks

Since updating to Win 10 "NONE" of my Video editing suits work anymore, with an 1394 Firewire interface.

    Thanks Deepika,

Clearly you didn't read my question in full, I am very conversant with Microsoft products and trying various drivers etc. has been the very first thing I have tried, what I require is an expert who can actually help me.

I have already tried ALL drivers that are available, (there are NO specific WIn 10 Drivers) I currently have the 1394 Microsoft Legacy driver installed, also note that 1394 card manufacturers and also 1394 on mother board manufacturers do NOT provide specific
drivers, so suggesting I look for manufactures drivers is a worrying statement from a Microsoft specialist.

Also if you could explain to me How and Where you would select Compatibility mode when installing a driver please, there is no such thing or option that I am aware of, or have you just made this up ?

I suggest you try these suggestions out first before passing them on to your customers...!

If you could please pass this request on to a colleague who might actually know what they are talking about and offer some real technical help please.

To me it appears the developers for Win 10 have once again (same as Win 7 and Win 8.1) completely forgotten about 1394 interfaces, as I said this is another complete abysmal drop off by Microsoft.

    Regards

  4. Can import video from camera via 1394 interface

cannot upload camera or camcorder pics & videos

    Hi Scott,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you’re unable to import photos and videos after upgrading to Windows 10.

This could be due to incorrect Auto play settings. I suggest you to follow the steps as shown below and check if it helps.

    • Plug in the Camera.
    • Go to Start and type AutoPlay Settings.
    • Choose AutoPlay Settings.
    • Under your Camera Device, choose the option "Import Photos and Videos."
    • Exit Auto Play Settings and check if the issue persists.
You may refer to the article “Import photos and videos from a camera, phone, or DVD” for more information:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-8/import-photos-videos

Note: Steps applies to Windows 10 as well.

Hope these information helps, please get back to us for future support, we’ll be glad to assist you further.

    Thank You.
