How to Sort Files in Windows Explorer by Date Format in the Filename?

Hi everyone,

I have a folder in Windows Explorer that contains several files with names that include a date in the format "dd-mm-yyyy" (e.g., 01-01-2022 File 1.txt, 02-03-2022 File 3.txt, 03-01-2022 File 2.txt). I would like to sort these files in ascending or descending order based on the date included in the filename.

The names of the files can be anything, but the date is always in the "dd-mm-yyyy" format and is fixed at the beginning of the filename.

I have tried sorting the files by clicking on the "Date" column header in Windows Explorer, but it only sorts by the "Date Modified" attribute, which is not what I need. I also tried sorting the files alphabetically by name, but it does not work properly because it sorts based on the first "dd" values and not the entire "dd-mm-yyyy" format.

I have also tried setting "NoStrCmpLogical" to 0 in the registry to sort the files by values, but this did not work either.

I would prefer not to rename all the files to the "yyyy-mm-dd" format as "dd-mm-yyyy" is a more comfortable format for me to work with.

Can someone please suggest a solution or a workaround to sort these files by the date format included in the filename? Ideally, I would like to do this directly in Windows Explorer without having to install any additional software.

Sorting with File Explorer.

I tried the method that was complicated (3rd option) but fell over in second step as I could not find any "apply to folder button"'.

However, the simple put *.* in search bar, then sort results windows by date does the trick. It is slightly cumbersome as I have to do that each time I am selecting files (to upload to sharepoint) but a lot less hassle than I was having to scroll up and down between sorted file block and sorted folder block.

Since version 7 of the world`s most popular web browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer was silently renamed to Windows Internet Explorer.Such a step from Microsoft is not a surprise since Internet Explorer is part of the Windows operation system for a long time.Obviously Microsoft corp. wants to state that Internet Explorer is already considered as a part of Windows and not as an external browser (remember the IE and WMP law issues last year!?).
