Windows 10: Can Microsoft be less intrusive?

In the last few days every so often I have to waste time to convince the system to leave me alone by stopping to ask me to pick up default software for purposes that in most cases I don't care about. Is there a way to get rid of such interference? Many thanks!

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

Intrusive Microsoft policies

I have just upgraded to a Lumia 950 from a Nokia (20 phone. This was because of better camera. However it's a Windows 10 phone. This means that I am forced to daily update my phone. I'm a night owl and it always starts updating when I find it inconvenient.
There are lots of tips on how to disable this intrusion. None of them work. Why? Because Microsoft says NO. In addition, out of the blue my phone after the last enforced update makes me access the Web through Cortana. I know how to use the web having done
it since it came into being. I don't want this forced intrusion. Again all the advice on how to turn Cortana off doesn't work. Its an exasperating, upsetting nuisance and is forcing me away from microsoft phones. I'm on the verge of throwing it away and turning
to an I phone or other Android phone with good camera. Its a shame. Microsoft don't seem to smell the coffee. Already large organisations like O2 and Carphone Warehouse have stopped dealing with microsoft phones for this very reason. You would think that they
would respond positively to the problem but not so. Let's hope they do so soon.
