Windows 10: Can Microsoft Media Creation Tool download in Safe Mode, and from the default Admin account?

That's it really!


The backgound and details are more complicated than in most people's cases and would need pages of typing, so if anyone needs to know anything in order to answer, please ask!


I've studied and understand what the MCT does and how, and have also done it before to create a bootable USB image of a Linux OS, in that instance.


The shortest story I can think of;' I'm trying to recover my new laptop that a forced 2004 update blue-screened in mid July on the 3rd day of turning it on before I had a chance to read up on how to create user accounts in Windows 10. Unlike some less fortunate victims, I can still boot straight into recovery options and restart into Safe Mode with & without networking. And the sole account called User seems to enable doing things as administrator in some places, and looks as if it might be the same 'Default Admin' one that I read about re Vista my last OS.


Geography and other circumstances make it very difficult maybe impossible this time to find another computer I can use for the downloads. I have only my phone - small memory & no OTG drive.

visit safemode, log into admin account. download malwarebytes (or transfer from usb). run malwarebytes. exit safe mode. run an updated malwarebytes on admin account. eat some pie ;D

 

Media Creation Tool question

Thanks Cerberus but Ive no problem downloading the Iso with the media creation tool. I don't think its the ISO that is the problem' I think the problem is when the Media Creation Tool is creating the bootable USB flash drive. So I think I can use the Media Creation Tool for that part...and as you say try something like Rufus to create the bootable USB flash drive

I still have this question though "The tutorial here says after going to the Microsoft site and selecting the Download Tool (Media Creation Tool) option that the Media Creation Tool should be save to the PC and run from there.
On Microsoft site the instructions are to Download the Tool and select Run (no saving to the PC). Is there a reason for saving it to the PC first as suggested on Tenforums?"

I was curious to see if others had encountered the issue I had with the Media Creation Tool. Ive never had a problem using it before

Just mount iso as a drive and run setup.exe - most reliable method.
