  1. Can not create a folder named "Images" on a internal RAID 1 GPT drive.

I have had a RAID 1 drive using WD 6TB drives for several years Drive E. Over the last week, I started getting errors stating that I can not edit files contained within a folder called Images. I have well over 18K images in the folder. This means I can not edit my images or add new images into the folder. My D: drive has applications installed there and the C: drive contains the OS - as far a Microsoft will allow.

I created this folder structure under Windows 7 and have updated Windows Pro through the years. I can create files in all the other folders on the drive, but not in the folder and sub folders of Images. I checked the file permissions and they are no different than any other folders on the drive. Tested by creating a cmd file using the copy con method, which works for every folder except the one named Images

Yesterday I go frustrated and copied all of the folders off to a 8TB USB drive. Deleted the mirror, recreated the Mirror and reformatted it. Just because I am Pedantic, I dropped my D: drive and did the same thing. Delete the mirror, recreate the mirror and copy the files back from the external USB.

Now that the system is up and running again, I have copied all the folders back onto the E: drive except for the Image folders and all that is working. However, I can not create a folder called Images - I get the message:

    >md Images

The system cannot find the file specified.

I can create the images folder using Explorer, and I can create subfolders. When I try to create a file using the copy con method I get:

    >copy con look.cmd

    echo off

The system cannot find the file specified.

When I attempt to delete the Images folder in Explorer once I have been able to kludge a way to create it I get the message that I can not delete it because it is in use by another program. Even Process Explorer can not find any process that has the folder E:\Images open.

I do not expect an answer - but I am frustrated to all get out. I can/have created a Images file on by backup drive and I am able to edit files and create new ones. Just not on my desktop computer E:\ drive.

I am running this on a desktop

    Asus Sabertooth X58

    Intelr Coretm i7 CPU 960

    24GB RAM

    C: SSD

    D: 1TB Mirror

    E: 6TB Mirror

Running Windows 10 Pro v2004 build 19041.329 Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2002.130.0

    Updated every day.

    :)

Trouble creating a RAID 1 Array

Originally, I wanted to create a RAID 1 Array using USB Drives lying around and test it out and see how well RAID 1 works. A message popped up when I clicked on the partition I wanted to mirror and said the operation failed because the Disk Management
Console is not up to date. It suggested I refresh it, relaunch it, or even restart my computer. I tried all three things, and it still wouldn't let me mirror the partition. Then I realized that maybe Windows won't let me create a RAID 1 Array on USB Drives,
so I went to the original plan I was going to do and grabbed my 500GB External HDD and my 120GB External SSD (they are both USB 3.0 connected enclosures) and when I tried to mirror a partition on my 500GB HDD using my SSD, it wouldn't let me use the SSD to
mirror it. So then I tried using my internal windows 10 SSD to mirror my HDD. But, I needed to shrink my main partition on my internal SSD and it wouldn't let me shrink it saying there was a certain amount I could shrink it to, but I could only shrink 135MB
at max and I have 89.4GB free on that partition. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated (and by the way, if you're wondering why I'm trying to run RAID 1 on an external HDD/SSD is just for testing and more file redundancy and performance).

Can I use a RAID 1 drive array as my Windows boot drive?

I am not going to use hardware RAID. I want to use Windows Storage Spaces to create the RAID 1 array from two identical hard drives.

Do I install Windows on the first hard drive then create the RAID array using Storage Spaces?

When I create the RAID array will Windows automatically mirror the Windows installation including the boot partition to the second drive so the RAID array is bootable?

Are their any steps unique to this setup that I must follow when installing Windows or creating the RAID array so that the RAID array will be bootable?

GPT disk conversion for both data drives and C drive

Macrium Rescue disk can be used to convert from MBR to GPT and vice versa without doing a fresh install of Windows.

    1. Download Rescue6.1.1081X64.iso - Google Drive and use Rufus to create a bootable USB disk. Skip this step if you've already created the Macrium Rescue disk.
    2. Download: BootEFI_Only-00-00.zip - Google Drive . Unzip to an external or an internal HD
      NOTE:
This is a copy of the first 3 partitions of my current Windows 10 x64 (450MB Recovery, 100MB EFI and 16MB MSR)
    3. Boot up Macrium Rescue disk and create a backup of your current Windows to another internal/external HD. It serves 2 purposes: you'd have a backup of your current Windows in case things go wrong and then use it to restore the C drive on the next steps.
    4. Next, switch the BIOS to UEFI and use Macrium to restore the first 3 partitions downloaded in step 2 to your current MBR Windows. No need to convert or Format, Macrium will do it.
    5. Again with Macrium, select the backup image from step 3, and copy back the C drive after the 3 partitions.
After this step, you should have: 450MB, 100MB, 16MB and C drive (GPT partition scheme)
    6. From Macrium, click on Fix the Windows Boot Problems
    7. Reboot. Your Windows should be in UEFI mode.
