Windows 10: Can not open Office or Adobe Programs

Hello


I keep having a recurring problem where office and adobe programs will cease to open on several computers. The only way to get them to run is to run them as administrator. I notice that after a restart I can open each program once before they are unable to be opened again.


Since this has happened on about 10 computers we have tried a host of different possible solutions such as:


sfc /scan now (no issues)

DISM scan (no issues)

modifying registry keys ( https://windowsreport.com/exe-files-not-opening-windows-10/ ) (worked for about 24 hours)

Changed ownership of C drive (no change)

Ran a registry fix that replaced file extension keys (worked for 24 hours)

Ran malwarebytes and sophos virus remover (no virus found)

Moved the user from version 1803 to 1809 (no change)


The only solution that has worked is clearing out the users profile through registry and C drive and then logging them back in to restore.


But now I have a user who is on a new profile that is now having the same issue again.


Any help on this would be great.

Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro not listed under set default program

As you are unable to set Adobe Acrobat as default program from settings, I suggest you to follow the steps provided below:

• Navigate to the file which you want to open using Adobe Acrobat.
• Right click on the file and select Open with and click on
  choose another app.
• Check if Adobe Acrobat is listed in the programs list.
• If not then click on Look for another app on this PC.
• Navigate to the location where Adobe Acrobat is installed and select the same.
• Check the box for Always use this app to open files and click on
  OK.

Microsoft Edge vs Adobe Reader

  Open Control panel.
  
• 
  Select Default Programs.
  
• 
  Click on Adobe Reader and set that application as Default.
  

If the issue persist follow the steps below.

• 
  Open Default Program.
  
• 
  Click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
  
• 
  Select any pdf file Extension.
  
• 
  Click on Change program.
  
• 
  Select Adobe Reader.

Adobe Reader not opening

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Reader DC
and check if it fixes the issue. Follow the steps below to uninstall
Adobe Reader DC:

• 
  Press Windows key + X.
  
• 
  Click on Programs and Features.
  
• 
  Look for Adobe Reader DC
  and right click on it and click on uninstall.
  
• 
  Reboot the computer after uninstall is complete and try to reinstall them.
