Windows 10: can not open word document

I just upgraded office 2007 to office 2016. On all of my fils that I made with my older version can be opened with 2016. But if I create a new document with Word 2016 and save it, when I try to open it a message pops up telling me that this is valid only with installed products. When I open it, I do have the option to "open with". I can choose 2016 and it opens. When the option "open with" comes up I would think that there would be another choice that says "always" open with but it doesn't. So nest time I have to go through the same steps to open it.This happens only with Word but not Excel. My OS is windows 10.

Frustration with Windows 10

My problem witth Windows 10 is its interaction with Word. If I open Word normally, (1) every document opens as a read only document and (2) I cannot save any document, new or old. THe only way to get a document to save is to open Word as Administrator.
I can then save new documents but cannot save edited old documents which only open as read only. What gives?

 

Lost Word Mobile

I have a PDA and not a phone but I have also had Word Mobile disappear on me. Under templates I have Blank Document but no Word Document. I tried opening the Blank Document but it acts the same as when I try to open any Word file or try to open Word
itself.

Can anyone help me with this?

 

Have you checked Control Panel, Default Programs to see if Word is set for .doc and .docx files?
