Windows 10: Can not skip the network setup on a Windows 10

I am trying to get this laptop's starting setup done for a friend, but my friend does not want any linked accounts on it. He tried to setup it up himself, but he ran into the same issue. Just can't get past the "Let's connect you to a network" screen. I have installed Windows 10 before on other computers, and they would let you skip this. Plus he is on the road lots right now. So he wants a local account at least, and no Microsoft accounts.

I did some searching, and someone said something about Shift+F10 to open command prompt, but that does not do anything during the setup steps. I have tried disabling the WiFi. I am just running into a road block.

If you want to know, this laptop is only about a week old. So I am thinking it has 1903 or 1909 already in it. I am not sure since I can't get past this screen.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows 10 LAN Setup


I have a small business with a data server and 7 workstations. Till now I have avoided the upgrade as xp has worked so problem free but a recent decision to upgrade server meant I could not avoid it any longer.

We have purchased the new workstations and now looking at the network side of things but have hit a bit of a snag.

Looking online I see most of the windows 10 networking steps relate to windows 7 and the general suggestion from what I can see is to use homegroup. In xp we were using workgroup and things were very easily set up and maintained but it seems the win 10 is not so easy to set up or maybe I am just not up to speed.

Any suggestions on a small business win 10 network setup and links to walkthrough's would be highly appreciated.
