Windows 10: Can only print after printing from Microsoft Edge

Hi all,


My computer HP Compaq 15 Notebook has been having trouble with printing for a long time now and I am finally trying to get on and fix it. I am trying to print to a brother HL-2270DW printer. All of the other computers in my household have no issues printing from it, but my computer can only print from it if I have first printed a page from Microsoft Edge. After that, I can print from any application with no issues. I need to do this each time I reboot my computer. Otherwise, I get the error code 0x000007d1.


To try and fix the issue, I have:

• uninstalled/reinstalled the printer drivers
• updated my laptop running Windows 10 x64, just did cumulative update 1909
• Done the RegEdit fix that worked for other people with a similar issue
• tried to print after clean boot and in safe mode
• turned off print in background

Nothing seems to work except the Microsoft edge print. Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

Print from microsoft edge

Let’s follow these steps and see if it fixes the issue:

Method 1: I suggest you to follow the steps below to print
documents in the Windows 10 Edge browser and check if it helps:

• 
  Once the document is open in Edge, press Ctrl+P or
  More actions button at the top last end of the browser.
  
• 
  Click Print as PDF button.
  
• 
  Check if the document prints as expected.
  

If the above steps did not work, try the next methods.

Method 2: I would suggest you to run “Hardware and Devices” troubleshooter to diagnose the exact issue.

Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter:

• Right click on the start button.
• Click Control Panel.
• Select “Hardware and sound”.
• Next select Devices and printers.
• Right click on the device or printers which you need to troubleshoot and select
  troubleshoot and follow the onscreen instruction.

Microsoft Edge "Print Email" not working

I suggest you to make sure that you made the following settings and check if you are able to print.

Step 1:

• 
  Open MS Edge and click on more actions [...]
  
• 
  Click on Settings and select
  Print.
  
• 
  Choose your printer from the list and check if you are able to print.
  

Step 2:

• 
  Press Windows key and type
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on view by and select large icons.
  
• 
  Open Devices and printers.
  
• 
  Right click on your printer and select set a default printer.

PDF Printing Problem With Edge

In order to assist you better could you please confirm a couple of things:

• How did you try to print?
• What happens when you try to print?
• Did you receive any error message?

Nevertheless, I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if this helps:

• Open the PDF file which you want to print.
• Click on the Ellipses which is at the top right hand corner of the Edge Browser.
• Select Print option and then click ok.
