Can only type the letter "e" using the on-screen keyboard.

When I woke up this morning I wasn't able to type the letter e into my Windows 11 desktop PC. I've used multiple known working keyboards and non of them are allowing me to type that key. I confirmed that they're working by plugging them into another PC. The only way I'm able to type an e is by using the on screen keyboard. Here is everything I've tried without any luck! -Used system restore to roll back windows to a later date, when it worked.-rolled back most recent Windows Update.-tried a wireless keyboard, both dongled and Bluetooth. -Windows built in keyboard troubleshooting-multiple

  3. Keyboard not typing letters

    Hi Bob,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I would suggest you to try the Onscreen keyboard and check if it helps.

Please have a look at this article and check if it helps. Even though the article is for Windows 8.1, the option to enable the onscreen keyboard is the same.

Use the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) to type

After you are able to log in, I would suggest you to change the log in option or you may follow the steps provided by Neha Gupta to update the drivers and check if it helps.

    Thank you.

Can only type the letter "e" using the on-screen keyboard.

After typing the first letter/number, the cursor stops flashing and nothing else will type in.

    Hi,

I realize that you are facing the issue with the keyboard, let me assist you.

To assist you better, write back to us with the following information.

    • Does the issue persists only in email and while entering the password or with other applications too?

    • Did you make any changes prior to the issue?

    • What is the make and model of your system?

As an initial step of troubleshooting, I suggest you to try using the on screen keyboard and check if the issue persists

Follow the steps below to open the on screen keyboard.

    • Type on screen keyboard in the search bar and select
      On screen keyboard
      from the search items.

If you are able to type properly using the on screen keyboard then, it might be issue related to the keyboard hardware.

I suggest you to follow the below steps to run the
    Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
    .

    • Type Troubleshooting in the search bar and press
      Enter key.

    • In the Troubleshooting window, click on
View all option on the left pane.

    • Click on Hardware and Devices.

    • Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue persists, using on screen keyboard as well, then it might be an issue related to a third-party application or might be virus issue.

I suggest you to perform a full system scan using Windows Defender and check if it helps.

Refer to the below link to perform full system scan using Windows defender:
