Can see my HDD in BIOS but not in windows

My son's Dell 8700 crashed during a Windows update. It has since been passed onto 'Dad' to fix. I have taken out the 32 Gb SSD which was used for caching only, and replaced with 500 Gb SSD which runs very well on Win10 version 1909. I want to use the HDD for data but as above cannot see in Windows, only in BIOS therefore cannot move forward on this.

Can anybody shed light on this anomaly and help to solve. My HDD is a Toshiba 2 terabyte. On a community board somewhere someone said not to use Intel's AHCI drivers as they are not compatible with the hard disk and would cause it to disappear from Windows not BIOS. Just to use MS drivers and one would then see the HDD in windows. Can anyone help as reaching the end of my working knowledge and now **** about in a fog !!

This topic might also suit 'storage'.

    Thanks

    Ewen

    :)

    USB HDD: IN BIOS

Hi AJAY, in modern BIOS (UEFI) it is normal to have USB devices listed, such as USB HDD without drive being plugged in.

In older Legacy BIOS, a drive would have to be plugged in for it to be listed in BIOS, but not no londer . . .

After upgrading to Windows 10 - 2nd and 3rd HDDs cannot be seen??????

    Hi,

What is the make and model of your computer?

I suggest you to check in BIOS setting whether both the HDD are listed there. You may get in touch with your computer manufacturer or refer to the user manual on how to enter BIOS settings.

If it is listed in BIOS, you may check whether you are able to see both the HDD in Disk Management. Follow the steps to check:

    Press Windows Key + X.

    Click on Disk Management.

Please reply us with the required information to assist you further.
