  1. Can somebody help me on how to reconfigure boot loader in Windows 10?

I have windows 10 and I accidentally deleted my efi partition. And that prevents my computer to start because there is no boot manager. I know that there is no boot manager because when I entered bios configuration there are only 2 boot options available, the hard drive and optical disk drive so I have to make a new one. Since I only have my windows 7 installation disk, I used it to make a new boot manager. I followed some steps in doing it and I successfully created a new efi partition. Then when I restarted my windows, it started normally but it took longer than normal. When I was going to shutdown my computer, it didn't shutdown completely, it is like hibernating. And when I started my computer again, I pressed f8 and it showed windows 7-like advanced boot options.

Is right to make a new efi partition using windows 7 installation disk?

    :)

Hi, I would hope you would have succeeded had you used Startup Repair from a Windows 10 boot medium. Not 7.

Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums

or you could use the media creation tool to create a bootable USB flash drive, I understand.

Note: disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage is strongly recommended for partition and disk backups, even allowing you to restore everything to a new disk should your disk fail.

  7. I'm using my computer for about 2 weeks now and everything works fine but the problem is that it doesn't shutdown. When I looked up into msconfig, my OS is not listed. And when I'm going shutdown my computer, I press the power button for 5 seconds until it turns off.

    Take a look at this.

Try deleting the EFI partition you created, then run startup repair from a Win 10 install disk with a Win 10 build that matches your installed OS. I can't guarantee that will work, but should be safe and simple to try.

The screenshot you've shown above (thanks) can be found readily on the web for this sort of report.
    E.g.
Problem - BCD store lost, can't recover + no recovery menu - Page 2
#1 mentions "msconfig's boot tab shows empty OSes list (nothing on the tab is clickablle)"

Also please post a screenshot or photo as you can't boot of your disk structure so experts can help.
    - but for that you'd need a bootable partition manager disk e.g. Minitools (free)

    @keithsummer,
Looking at the post from @dalchina I got an idea that will help.
First install Macrium Reflect, create the recovery drive, then make an image of only your C: partition and any data partitions.

Then download the Windows ISO to a USB(Use MCT).
Then do a Clean install of Windows 10.
After that boot into the Macrium recovery drive and reimage only the C: partition and data partitions(if any).
    Then you're back in business.

Hi Cliff S- thanks- let's let him try deleting the partition first, then run startup repair and see what happens- that's quick and uncomplicated.

If it doesn't work, nothing lost and he can go on to the above- I ended up doing something similar myself once! Either Edwin or topgundcp have suggested that approach in another thread to someone.

@keithsummer - for future reference, if you delete a partition, it's relatively easy to undelete it provided the space hasn't been overwritten. To do that you would have needed a partition manager boot disk.

It is better he try's yours first*Wink, I want to try my idea on my laptop first, as it has picked up an extra recovery partition a while ago(I don't know how*Confused, as my desktop didn't) and I want to get rid of it, so, what a better time to test.*chuckle

  12. Maybe I should do a clean install to fix all the problems. If that is the best way

    And thanks for your replies.

Or if I upgrade my pc into Windows 10 Pro, should that also resolve the problem since my OS is Windows 10 home?

Well, if you have everything backed up, sure you can clean install, but deleting a partition and trying Startup Repair is quite trivial and much quicker by comparison.

What we're trying to do is save you the pain of reinstalling all progs, copying back all your data and redoing your settings.

If Home is ok for you, why would you want to pay for Pro? And installing Pro - well, you'd just be doing a clean install- same effect as reinstalling Home.

Can you wait an hour or so, I'm trying what I advised on my own machine, and the clean install is just finishing, and then I will reimage the C: drive. Should be finished in less than an hour.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, you can boot into Windows, correct?
And you will be able to install Macrium then?
