I’m looking to use an SSD over USB using an external adaptor, but I’m paranoid about the USB ports in my laptop not providing enough energy to sufficiently power it. I’ve read that USB 3.0-3.2 give 4.5 watts and USB C gives up to 15 watts, but some places say it’s up to 100 too. There’s also low-power and high-power USB which I’ve recently heard about, and I’m just wondering how all of this actually works. I don’t even know how to find the details about my own laptop’s ports. It’s very confusing. Can someone give me a simple and detailed explanation about all of this?

    :)

Disable "Power Surge on USB" message

    Hi David,

If the system detects that a USB port is going over the power limit, the system is set to notify the user by default. However, since you mentioned that you're still getting the notification after you disabled the alerts, we suggest following these steps
    instead:

    • Right-click the Start button.
    • Choose Device Manager.
    • Click the drop-down arrow beside Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Right-click anything that has USB Host Controller in its name, and select
      Properties.
    • Go to the Driver tab and select Uninstall.
    • Restart your computer. The driver will be reinstalled automatically.

Let us know if the error notification disappears after following these steps.

Overclocking / Undervolting guide for Vega 56 or 64?

    Here's a quick laundry list:

List of software to use for overclocking and testing
    Examples:
Wattman (and how to find and use it, like an overview, including profiles)
Unigine Valley or Heaven (use this for quick testing while changing settings in Wattman and checking for stability / artifacts) ...just suggesting this
How to monitor cores / mem speeds and temps during testing (I've seen screen overlays, and others using GPUz)

    Step-by step overclocking in Wattman
    Fan speeds
    Power limit
    Temp limit
    Voltages
    Core speeds
    Memory speeds

    Conversion|wattage basics

Thanks for the reply. So, if a device doesn't include its wattage in the title - like the 700 watt juicer - is there a way to tell what wattage it is? Would a 300 watt transformer be useful for most small household appliances?

How come you suggest not using devices designed for different grid-voltages? Are you saying step down transformers can be problematic?

    Thanks again.
