Not quite the same. You car wont expire due to age. *Biggrin Note that windows 7 will expire in 4 years.

And what does "expire" mean. It does not mean that it won't run any more.

No, but it does mean that it shouldn't, after support ends. Just like XP, it's dangerous to keep running an OS that has no security patch support.

Who cares about this useless security. I run it in a virtual partition under Linux hosts. That gives me real security.

I care ( well, somewhat) and run Linux/s under W10 host.

Uhhh... what? I fail to see how running a known vulnerable OS as a guest of one that isn't known to have one makes the vulernable one somehow secure... That doesn't even make sense.

It does not make it more secure but it is easier to fix.

Keeping this part for reference for security information. I incorrectly misread Mystere's post. I got it backwards. I still can't believe I still get things backwards to this day. My apologize to Mystere's.

IMO, the only reason to 'upgrade' to W10 is that MS will force you to do it, and it might not be free if you wait too long. The company will discontinue 'so-called' support of previous operating systems, and various bugs and attacks on W7 and W8.1 will bring you to your knees.

Has anyone mentioned hardware compatibility of new PCs, and lack of drivers for old OS's?
So the benefit of Win 10 is to run modern hardware, with the drawback of Win 10's vulnerabilities.

(That said, mine's been stable on a 6 year old and a brand new laptop...)

That is not a reason to upgrade an existing system that is perfectly working.

Never said it was... more the general case of why move on to a new OS. Including 'upgrading' when you buy a new PC.. i.e. what OS would you want on it and why.

But you can extend that to Win 10 only compatible progs and peripheral hardware ... which will come eventually.
