Hello, I have a question, can switching power plans often in Windows 11 harm my laptop or is it alright to keep moving back and forth from balanced plan to high performance plan, because while being on battery and looking up the internet i dont wanna have it heat up and drain the battery quick and i switch it on balanced, but while im gaming i want to get the best experience by using the high performance so that means im having to switch them pretty often in 1 day. Is it a bad thing to do? or am i being too paranoied about it?

    :)

    Power plan?

Upon checking, it seems that there's nothing wrong with your system. It is usual that you have to double-click your mouse before your monitor wakes up.

For the meantime, we suggest changing the power plan by following the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + S.
    • Type in Power Settings.
    • On the pop-up window, choose Additional power settings.
    • Select High performance.

After changing the power plan, we suggest that you monitor the changes made and check if that will work for you.

Get back to us if you need further help.

  3. Easy way to switch power plan in Windows 10

I've a 27" external monitor connected to my laptop and I use my laptop's screen as secondary. I've both screens turned on while I'm working. When I'm watching movies, I just keep my external monitor on and turn off the lid of the laptop.

I've created a power plan in Power Options called Laptop Screen off which basically does nothing when the lid is off, then I use my external monitor as my only screen.

When I'm working, I activate another power plan which supports high performance for programming and running virtual machines. This power plan puts the laptop to sleep when the lid is closed.

Anyways, I keep switching between these plans depending on what I'm doing. This was all easy in Windows 7/8.1 as I just clicked the battery icon and switched it.

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week and now I've to dig deeper to get there. There should be an easier way? Is there a small tool I can use to do what I'm doing in less no. of steps?

    1. Click battery icon in task-bar --> power and sleep settings

Windows 11 keeps switching to "High Performance" power plan when plugging in a laptop

    Hello KristjanU

Im Juliet and im happy to help you Can switching the windows power plan often harm laptop? :)

To prevent Windows 11 from automatically switching to the "High Performance" power plan when you plug in your laptop, you can adjust the power plan settings and disable the automatic power plan switching feature. Here's how you can do it:

    1. Open the Start menu and search for "Power & Sleep Settings." Click on the search result to open the Power & Sleep settings page.

    2. In the Power & Sleep settings, click on the "Additional power settings" link located on the right side under the "Related settings" section. This will open the Power Options control panel.

    3. In the Power Options control panel, you will see a list of power plans. Identify the power plan that you want to use when your laptop is plugged in (e.g., "Balanced" or "Battery Saver").

    4. Click on the "Change plan settings" link next to the power plan you want to modify.

    5. On the next screen, click on the "Change advanced power settings" link.

    6. In the Advanced settings tab, scroll down until you find the "Battery" category.

    7. Expand the "Battery" category, and then expand the "Battery saver" option within it.

    8. You should see two options: "On battery" and "Plugged in." Configure both options according to your preferences. Make sure that the settings are the same for both cases if you want to maintain consistency.

    9. Once you have adjusted the settings, click on the "Apply" button and then click "OK" to save the changes.

After following these steps, Windows 11 should no longer automatically switch to the "High Performance" power plan when you plug in your laptop. Instead, it should maintain the power plan you have configured, such as "Battery Saver" or "Balanced," for both plugged-in and unplugged scenarios.
