Can UAC be configured for a single application?

Can UAC be configured on Windows 10 on a per application basis? You can stop the message "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your PC" from appearing for all applications but I would like to have the setting of UAC apply to a single app and leave all other apps alone. I know the publisher of the app in question and it is safe. There used to be a program called "Compatibility Administrator" which ran on Windows 7 but is not available on Windows 10.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

  2. Can a single Paid for App be installed on multiple devices?

    Thanks for the input everyone.

The good news is that the advice held up and I now have the app installed on both handsets without having to pay again.

The bad news is that I can no longer use the "I got lost" excuse with my boss...

    Thanks again,

    James

Can a single Paid for App be installed on multiple devices?

    Hi James G 1972,

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Community. I understand you're wondering if there is a way to install the Navigon app on multiple devices. I can certainly answer that question for you.

App and game purchases are billed to the primary Microsoft Account on the phone. If you have multiple phones, such as one for personal use and one for work use, you would need to have the same primary account on both phones to be able to purchase the app
once and download it to both devices.

If you have separate Microsoft Accounts on each device then the app would need to be purchased a second time on the additional account.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Regards,

Can UAC be configured for a single application?

    Hello fordtman

If you like, you could unblock the file to stop getting the Open File - Security Warning prompt for it. *Smile

    Hi Brink,

Thanks for the reply however the problem seems to be associated with UAC. I tried all five of the fixes you suggested but they either did not apply or did not fix the problem. One of the application I am having the issue with is Notepad++ which doesn't seem to have any publisher information associated with it even though it is a well known and useful app. I keep getting the message:

Can UAC be configured for a single application? [IMG]

Fix 1. No unblock check box
Fix 2. The open file security warning does not appear only the UAC message above.
Fix 3. Smart Screen window does not appear even though it is turned on.
Fixes 4 and 5. The Power Shell fixes did not fix the issue.

The only way I have found to stop the message appearing is to turn UAC off, but this sets it off for all apps which is not ideal.

I just installed the latest 6.8.1 version of Notepad++, and its .exe file is not doing this for me. You might see if uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version may help.

    Brink,

Thanks for the reply. The problem is now solved, but more questions have arisen. I did have 6.8.1 installed but I had installed it in a directory on my D: drive which contains all of my applications. I do not install apps in the Microsoft default C:\Program Files...., because if I have to re-install the operating system from scratch I still have all of the data associated with my apps on my application drive (paranoid I guess). Anyway when I re-installed again after your suggestion I again installed it on my apps drive and of course the message was still there. Then I had a flash of brilliance, instead of changing the default installation suggestions I just accepted everything and it was installed in the default C:\Program File (x86) location and presto no more message. I now have to find out why applications installed on a drive other than the default c:\program files .... cause this message to appear, it appears to be the case for some of my other apps as well. It has to be something to do with the security settings I have.

Can UAC be configured for a single application?

    Try this.

Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

From My experience of using this on windows 7.

Don't do the c: drive or the windows folder.

You can do most of the folders but be careful when do folders located in C:\windows or you may have to reinstall windows. I used this on the cursors & media folder. You can also use it on the c:\users folders as well.

I think you could take ownership of the d:\ drive without any issue.

If you want to try it, uninstall notepad++, reinstall notepad to your d drive. Don't open it yet. Now use the take ownership on the d drive. Now, open notepad++ Don't know if this will work.

    Groze,

I have tried taking ownership of the drive as Administrator (it used to have System ownership) both of which have full control, however the UAC message still appears. It is looking more like a "feature" of Windows 10 and I am going to have to turn off UAC or install everything in C:\Program Files. Many thanks for your reply.

  10. Did you ever find a solution for this? I'd like to do the same thing for ONE app and not all.
