Windows 10: Can updates be installed without restarting?

Hi, I have the following issue regarding update and BSOD.


It seems that a driver on my hp laptop is malfunctioning. I have not been able to find which drive it is although I have tried many of the workarounds described in the forums (memory problems check using memtest, system file checks, dism, sending my system files and dump files, etc).


The problem is that every time an update restarts the pc, I get bsod (thread stuck in device driver). Normally, after manually restarting again, no bsod appears and the update rolled up well and worked fine. This until Windows 10, version 1903 update came.


After downloading and start installing this update, system needs to restart, update begins to install, 10%, 20%, 50%, but suddenly same bsod appears (same thread stuck in device driver), I manually shut down and restart again, but system uninstalls update showing something like "windows cannot update and is uninstalling update restoring your system" .


Memtest had showed me errors, many passes done (more than 96 hrs checking), SFC and DISM have told me there are errors, and "fixed" them, but I try to install this update with same behavior (have tried more than 20 times now).


So my question is if there is a way to install this 1903 update without need of restarting the system.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Windows 10 infinite restart black screen


The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

• unhooked HDD
• restarted
• yay !!
• reconnected HDD
• restarted
• yay !!
