Windows 10: Can we set PC not to sleep during working hours

I am using Core I7 7th Generation having fully updated Windows 10. I use this as a small server. I set it sleep after one hour of inactivity. I use this computer almost full day as server SQL 2012 Enterprise, but after an hour computer goes to sleep. Can we set computer "do not sleep during working hour" as there is option for windows update.

Computer Sleep Option Missing in Settings

The Settings Power and Sleep menu in Settings should list Screen and Sleep, where Sleep is used to tell when the PC goes to sleep. Sleep is missing, so my computer never sleeps. Fast startup and Hibernate are not enabled.

I used Tutorial Add or Remove Sleep in Power menu in Windows 10 to change the registry while in administrative mode, but sleep still is not seen.


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FlyoutMenuSettings now lists :1: It was 0 before the change.

I used Option 3 to add sleep using the Group Policy Editor. The steps seemed to work fine, but sleep is still missing.

I’m using a “new” refurbished Dell T3500 workstation with mbr running the current version of win10. I have a number of these computers, and the other all have the normal sleep mode .

Any suggestions? Jim

PC sleeps after about 1 1/2 hours but changed settings are ignored

Hi, to confirm your PC went to sleep, see your Event Viewer

1. event viewer (eventvwr from the command line)
2. event ID 42 in System log from source Kernel-Power as the sleeping event

Is hibernation enabled? Try this:
Press Windows + X, and select the option

1. Control Panel.
2. Click on the Power Options icon.
3. Click on Change Plan Settings
4. Click on Change advanced power settings.
5. Expand Sleep, expand Hibernate After, set to 0 minutes

Check scheduled tasks:

1. Type task scheduler on the search bar.
2. Click on Task Scheduler.
3. Under Actions, click on Display All Running Tasks.
4. Once All Running Tasks pops up, look for one that schedules a sleep event.
5. Disable the task (temporarily) and see if your PC still sleeps.

You could also try using the 'Restore plan defaults' option for each power plan.

Sometimes a screen saver might do this- make sure you choose 'none' for test purposes.

Sometimes a 3rd party theme might be responsible - choose the default theme for test purposes.
