Windows 10: Can Windows 10 be installed on eSATA spinner HD?

I'm in the process of downloading Win 10 latest ISO. Can it be installed on an eSATA spinner HD as standalone, or must it be installed over existing OS such as Vista, 7 or 8?

No, you can't use a External Hard disk as a boot device unless its eSATA. If it supports eSATA, you could always install Windows 10 on the external drive without it affecting data on the local disks installed.

 

fail to install Cumulative Update Win 10 Ve1607 (KB3176929), need to recovery to previous point

My GF's laptop is unbootable after installing KB3176929. Install seemed to go fine but hours of spinner after reboot.

Powerbutton shutdown & restarted.

Boot Manager came up showing two entries for Windows 10. Neither one booted. Just got the spinner going around for hours. She did a power button shutdown again during spinner. It seems hosed. Hopefully the other computers are not gonna try to install KB3176929.

 

I think yes, you can install Windows 10 on eSATA external drive. Just plugin the drive to your computer, go to BIOS and make sure that eSATA drive is set as the default device to boot. You may be asked for drivers during install, so make sure you have them.

#Vladimir Thanks for the input. Have since installed successfully on eSATA, and set BIOS first boot to this drive.

Couldn't find my 2nd storage SSD HD in Computer. Went to Disk Management, and it didn't have a drive letter assigned to it. Gave it a drive letter and now all good. Can access various drivers, programs, personal data, etc.
