Can Windows 10 be permanently offline

I have two Win7 machines that are permanently offline : a video surveillance machine and a media player. I intend to upgrade these to Win10 - but I am wondering : Once Window10 is activated, will it run ok if it's offline permanently ? I seem to recall reading something that Win10 needs to phone-home few months, otherwise it will de-activate ?

Can anyone confirm or deny this ??

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Defender, can weekly scan be permanently disabled?

I'm getting very frustrated with Windows 10 Defender doing periodic scans. Using Task Scheduler to disable this function or set it for a time outside of my user hours DOES NOT WORK, as every time Windows Defender is updated, it goes back to default settings
in Task Scheduler. As it stands, I have to change Windows Defender Task Schedule every day!

The reason this is so frustrating, is that the task for weekly scan is set to run with highest privileges. This has the effect of crashing my computer while I'm running games at a higher-than-normal priority on my gaming PC. I get total PC lockup, and I
am forced to turn off the power supply in order to restart my PC. This is NOT good for my PC at all, and I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking of disabling and uninstalling Windows Defender all-together and getting a more cooperative anti-malware program.

Is there an answer to this? Can this be fixed? Or should I just get rid of Windows Defender in favour of an anti-malware program not designed for dummies?

  3. Windows 10 Defender, can weekly scan be permanently disabled?

Hey Capt. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Have you tried to change the scan to a time you want, and assure it's set in Scheduler to run only when system is idle? See the suggestions here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/antivirus-firewalls-s...

You can then back up the Scheduler tasks so you can restore them after the intrusive Version Upgrades:

This is the first I've heard about it interfering like that. If the issue is having it reset Scheduler after Version Updates, then I always recommend doing those manually while under your control using the Media Creation Tool as it's a more stable method.

    .

I am personally annoyed at having to reconfigure my Start menu after every Version Update but realize I can save the configuration file if I want.

If you want to express your opinion on this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. They will not even see it here. This is a tech forums staffed mostly by volunteers trying to help others
    with your problems.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Can Windows 10 be permanently offline

Windows 10 does not require an internet connection for anything. An internet connection is purely optional.
