    Can Windows do RAID?

I've been looking into unraid but i know that windows can do RAID basically i am in the build process of a 12 bay PC full of hard drives in RAID for my personal backup with varying hard drive sizes with redundancy.

Can windows do that or do you need windows server? or is it to costly with windows, i never hear much about windows and RAID.

    :)

I'm actually not sure what you just said, so I'll just list the steps.

    1: Install the drives
2: Go in to your BIOS (or whatever is controlling the RAID)
3: Set them up as RAID
    4: Install windows
5: Press F6 when Windows says "Press F6 if you need to install additional RAID or SCSI controllers."
6: Insert the floppy and load the drivers
7: Continue with the install like normal

  4. Can Windows do RAID?

Windows 7 RAID or Intel RAID?

Just to add to this. I used to use windows raid 0 for a number of years. The advantage was I could port the raid across motherboard and chipset changes (even AMD to Intel).

Performance wise it's software raid VS fake hw raid, I doubt the difference would be much. If you plan to stick to intel though (or ever want to dual boot Linux) probably use their raid would be my suggestion. It's possible to make a windows raid 0 volume accessible on linux but its tricky?
