    Can Windows "forget" about an USB device?


    I've been using Windows 10 in the pas t few years now. I have a USB steering wheel and a joystick for gaming, but I just noticed a strage thing with them.I have been using these USB devices for years now, but in the past few months I had a period where they weren't plugged in for like 4-6 months or even more. A few days ago when I connected these devices, the "new device" pop up appeared in the bottom right corner, then a message about the successful setup. It happened to both devices, Windows managed them like they were never connected before and this is the first time. I have used, disconn

    I suggest you to perform the following troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

    Method 1: Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

    I suggest you to run hardware and devices troubleshooter and check.


    • Press the Windows + X,
      and click on Search.

    • Type troubleshooting and select
      Troubleshooting
      .

    • Click on Hardware and Sound and select
      Hardware and Devices

    • Click on Next to run the troubleshooter


    Method 2: Update USB Controllers.

    To update the USB Controllers from Device Manager follow these steps.


    • Go to Device manager in control panel.

    • Select Device manager and a Device Manager window will pop-up.

    • Double Click on USB Controllers to expand.

    • Right click on the USB Controllers that is listed and select Update.

    Installing windows off of a USB stick

    Step By Step from vista:
    From admin cmd prompt

    1. diskpart
    1a. list disk
    2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

    Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

    xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

    And that's it, boot off your usb disk

    • Search for USB Drivers and expand it.
    • Right click on the USB Drivers and select
      Uninstall
      .
    • Restart the Computer.
    Also install the latest USB drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
