Windows 10: Can Windows forget an USB device without user input?

I've been using Windows 10 in the pas t few years now. I have a USB steering wheel and a joystick for gaming, but I just noticed a strage thing with them.I have been using these USB devices for years now, but in the past few months I had a period where they weren't plugged in for like 4-6 months or even more. A few days ago when I connected these devices, the "new device" pop up appeared in the bottom right corner, then a message about the successful setup. They were connected to the same USB as before. It happened to both devices, Windows managed them like they were never connected before

• What other troubleshooting steps have you done so far to fix this issue?

Instead of uninstalling, we suggest disabling the "USB input device" listed in Human Interface Devices and check if it resolves the issue.

USB 2.0 INPUT SUDDENLY WILL NOT WORK WITH USB 3.0

Since this is the case and the mouse is still not responding properly to your inputs when plugged
into a USB 3.0 port, we suggest that you attempt to manually update the device drivers in Windows 10 by following the steps on this link. This will provide a step by step guide on how you can manually uninstall a device driver and reinstall the
device driver afterwards. Refer to the last section of the page provided for the manual uninstall steps.
