I just purchased a Go Pro Hero 9 black and see it can record in 5.3k. If I record in 5.3k & then download the file to my Surface Pro 7 will I be able to view the video using Windows Media Player?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

What is the exact error message you get when you to try play files on Windows Media Player?

I suggest you to run both Windows Media Player Library and Settings troubleshooter and check.

Step 1: If your computer is having problems playing video or audio files in Windows Media Player, try using the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter to fix the problem. The troubleshooter checks the configuration and network settings
for Windows Media Player to make sure that you can play content you've downloaded and saved to your computer, or content streaming over a network or the Internet.

Steps to run Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter are as follows:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
    • In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click
      Troubleshooting.
    • Click View all, and then click Windows Media Player Settings
      and follow the instructions.

Step 2: If your computer is having problems accessing your collection of digital media files in the Windows Media Player Library, try using the Windows Media Player Library troubleshooter to fix the problem. The troubleshooter makes sure
Windows Media Player is correctly installed on your computer, and checks to see whether your Player Library is corrupted.

Steps to run Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter are as follows:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
    • In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click
      Troubleshooting.
    • Click View all, and then click Windows Media Player Library
      and follow the instructions.

Please reply us on the status of the issue to assist you further.

  3. New Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox

Anyone who uses Windows Vista and Mozilla Firefox may be pleased to hear that the Windows Media Player team has now released a plugin for Firefox that should allow the browser to play WMP content on websites. Here are the steps to get it working:
    • Installation of the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin may require administrative access to your PC. It is recommended that you close all other open browser windows before continuing with the installation.
    • Click the Install button to automatically download and install the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin.
    • Depending on your security settings, you may see a Security Warning dialog box. Click Install to install the plugin.
There is a known issue if you are using Firefox version 2.0.0.3 on Windows Vista with the installer failing with error code -203. To work around this simply restart Firefox (you will get a notification that Windows Vista will be changing the Firefox compatibility settings) and then install again - the second time should succeed.

The download is available here, and the new plugin works on all versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista (although it is mostly intended for Vista, as that currently has no WMP support in Firefox).

How can I record music from you tube using Windows Media Player in Windows #10 O.S. to a player list? I have reviewed options on the help sites and on the web pertaining to this problem. I find files on my “unsaved list” in Windows Media Player but I am
unable to play these since the codecs are not correct.

    Hi George,

    Thanks for the update.

"I have reviewed options on the help sites and on the web pertaining to this problem. I find files on my “unsaved list” in Windows Media Player but I am unable to play these since the codecs are not correct. "

Did you record music from YouTube using third party software? =I don’t think so, ==Are you trying to play the recorded files in windows media player?==I believe it is playing through WMP

If yes, what is the format of the file type?=I can not find away to determine this.
I have previously reviewed the link you suggested, but can not understand it enough to help me.

I would appreciate your continued help

Please refer to the below article, for the file types supported by Windows Media Player.
