Windows 10: Can you compress a file more easily?

I am wondering if you can edit the registry to where you can right click a file or folder and hit "Compress File" and it will compress the file or folder. Can someone tell me how to do that?

Compress files??

If you're compressing programs, 7zip beats everything easily. If multimedia files are also involved, RAR can sometimes take the lead due to multimedia compressors. But in nearly all the tests that i've done, 7zip is simply better and faster.

 

Files in C: drive automatically compressing?

As you may already know, if this feature is on, every new folder/file you add starts off automatically compressed. If you would like to turn it off for the whole drive, kindly follow these steps:

• Start File Explorer . In the left pane, right-click on the drive that you would not want to be compressed.
• Click Properties.
• Make sure that the Compress this drive to save disk space box is unchecked.
• Click OK then Apply.

Compressed Files

Yes, you can compress a folder in to a Zip file. This is handy for moving a lot of data.

For reference, are you just wanting to move the data or use it compessed? You cant use it while compressed but certainly move it more easily and faster.

To compress your User folder right click it > send to> zip file.

This will copy the data and compress it.
