Windows 10: Can you please help me fix my computer? I'm having trouble replacing a damaged hard drive.

I have a very interesting problem: basically, I can't replace a damaged secondary hard drive I've tried multiple times with two different replacements. Upon opening Crystal Disk Info, I noticed that it's reallocated sectors count was reading as: current - 100, worst - 100, and threshold - 5. After doing some research I decided that failure of the hard drive may not immediately be imminent because the numbers haven't changed since I first checked, however I would like to replace it. After purchasing a new hard drive to replace the damaged one, I attempted to replace it. I powered

Windows 10, Occasional Error, No Hard Drive, after Hard Drive Replacement

• Aside from replacing the hard drive, have you made any significant changes to your device prior to this happening?
• Have you tried plugging in the replaced hard drive to another computer to check if the same thing occurs?
• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Damaged hard drive

I damaged my hard drive while replacing a screen cable; dropped screw driver and shorted across two MB contacts. Wouldn't boot.

I purchased another of the same computer. (I'm a neophyte so bare with me please) and swapped the old harddrive into the new computer. After an extended time the screen says something like 'attempting repair of your computer' then a half hour later brings
up a blue screen with three choices on it, something like "exit system", "attempt boot again" and something else. I gave up at that point.

There is data on the old drive that is not backed up, my personal info and info for a non-profit I'm an officer in. Kinda-gotta-have type info.

Using the new hard drive, I created a bootable windows 10 disk on a usb drive.

So finally, here's the question. If I put the old (damaged) hard drive into the computer then boot from the usb stick,

1. will it just boot from the stick or will it try to write to the damaged driver, and

2. if it writes to the damaged drive, will it write to the old Windows 10 partition, write it anywhere it can (like over data) or will it try to format the damaged drive and install Win10?

I've worked myself to this point but now I"m afraid I"ll screw up data on the old drive which is why I started this in the first place.

Help with external hard drive

I appreciate your interest in windows 10 and also for trying the troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. I understand the inconvenience you faced. I will certainly help you with this.

I would suggest you to plug in hard drive then check in disk management you can see the drive or not.

Follow the steps to check Drive in Disk Management.

  Go to the Control Panel then click on the
  Administrative Tools. .
  
• 
  Under the Administrative Tool Click on Computer Management.
  
• 
  Click on Disk Management and check the External Hard Drive.
  

Also check in BIOS whether External Hard Drive is listed or not.

For help with the BIOS settings, refer to the computer manual or contact the manufacturer.

If it doesn’t work then, I would suggest you to update BIOS for updating BIOS contact Lenovo Support.
