Can you suggest a firewall with these features?

I'm looking for an application I haven't used in years. a new software based firewall. ( I need to get an old x368 box and make a real hardware firewall)

In the meantime I need a firewall that stops everything live incoming and outgoing and gives me the option to block the outgoing attempt or allow it and it sets a rule for my option. I need this to work with all hidden and shown Microsoft attempts at outgoing communication whether it be from an EXE DLL or other. If Cortana sneezes and phones Microsoft Home I want the firewall to alert me. If Microsoft attempts to check for updates, I want the app to alert me. I want nothing hidden from this firewall. I know some firewalls will hide the things the Operating System tries to do because they are programmed to ignore these requests as the OS is "Trusted" internally to the system.

I used a app like that years ago but don't know whats out there today. Normally I don't use a firewall or antivirus at all, I use Sandboxy and Rollback RX Home and or Shadow defender to fix any virus problem but like I said, I feel with Microsoft's new Draconian policies, I'll need one. Suggestions?

    :)

Honestly I don't think you have to worry about anything MS is going to do.. The AV tools that you're using should do and the firewall default by MS will do just fine.

Tinywall and Peerblock work well together. Tinywall blocks everything application based, and Peerblock blocks by IP's.

I worried about Microsoft when Windows 98 was caught phoning home. With Windows 10, I'm about to have a massive coronary. I just cannot believe all the ways they try to sneak stealing your private data most of which are turned on by default. I'm a savvy user so i look for these things but all those folks who wont bother doing that are going to be up a creek. The right of privacy in all forms is protected by the US Constitution and Microsoft cannot slip anything past us we cannot opt out of or they are breaking a pretty serious federal law. ( which they have done before many times and was found guilty.. just look at all the lawsuits Microsoft has been involved with.) Not to mention they were caught in bed with the NSA's spying program. History teaches. People forget. Not me. I don't forget so no, i'm not simply worried about anything Microsoft pulls, I'm down right terrified of their manipulations as should be all thinking men. I don't, won't, cannot trust Microsoft Not to do anything illegal with me or my data. I use Windows because it plays my games. If Linux played all my PC games, I'd jump ship in a heatbeat.

If anyone trust Microsoft 100 % with their history, they are out of their freaking minds. I want to spy on my Microsoft operating system because I don't trust Microsoft not to spy on me.

NSA's spying program included Skype and Hotmail. MS preaches only certain data is read and sent, however, that still cheating the user of his opt-out options. MS wants revenue from advertising so it preys on the clueless less tech savvy people and those that dont care. Those that dont care about advertising will care when their identity gets stolen. Imagine targeted advertising when an adult parents visit a lot of porn and/or lingerie(and toys) sites then when their kids get on the computer and they see those targeted ads? how do the parents explain that away? This just fuels the need for more data, it will never end until someone sues MS.

  9. if you realy want to restrict whats running on your machine and accessing the interweb try using comodo internet security

HIPS - this can be set at its highest level detects almost any software running, M$ might be in the white list but could be removed, it will can be set to detect any software starting and any attempts to hook into anything else. be warnded though if you dont know what your doing it can and will stop your favourite programs running, ie M$ Word will ask if it can hook into the keyboard controller so you can type, if its blocked word will run but you wont be able to do much *Nerd

Firewall can be set to detect anything attempting to connect to the interweb iirc this includes dll's exes, you can also set individual rules for programs to use specific ports only or allow inbound or outbound connections. agian if you block the wrong dll you could completly cut your self off from the www

on their highest settings at least untill your setup correctly HIPS and the firewall can and will spam you mercilessly with do you want to allow this to run and connect to this that or the other it is not for the imapatient who just like to spam click allow or block

I have learned not to trust all in one security programs, no offense to Comodo fanz, If you do some searching you can find what you need for your exact needs and sometimes cheap, most times Free. Commercial programs like AVG or Comodo do offer free services but usually are very limited in scope. Meanwhile wanting you yo subscribe or fork over 30-50 bucks for an enhanced product.

The two programs I suggested are fully free and are fully functioning, but only ask for donations. There are more these. IMHO, programs that do a specific job are better in the long run. Less chance for bugs, even lesser chance for Ads and the program doesnt bug you to upgrade constantly. And best of all, they uninstall more completely.

GDATA Internet Security comes with a nice firewall plus a very good anti virus module. I haven been using it for years and I've always been satisfied.
