Windows 10: Can you use an Intel Xeon with Windows 10?

I recently purchased a HP Z440 PC and am waiting for it to arrive.

The specs are:

CPU: Intel Xeon E5-1650 -v3

GPU: Nvidia Quadro K4200

Ram: 16GB DDR4

It comes without an operating system and I am hoping to install Windows 10 Pro on it.


Is this computer compatible with Windows 10 and if so, what edition will I need to get.

I read this on microsfts page about Windows 10 Pro for Workstations: "Choose high performance configurations including server-gradeIntel Xeon and AMD Opteron processors"

Does this mean I'd need to install the workstations edition for it to work?

Intel Xeon X5650 Compatibility

Hello,

The Intel Xeon line of processors is targeted at the non-consumer workstation, server, and embedded system markets. As such, while it is possible to install and run Windows 10 consumer editions (such as Home and Pro), you may experience hiccups and compatibility
issues. (Especially since the X5650 is based on an old architecture Westmere-EP)

Additionally, going from AMD A8 7600 to Intel Xeon X5650 will also require you to get a new motherboard. (From Socket FM2+ to LGA 1366). The safest option is to upgrade to a new platform such as
Coffee Lake from Intel or Zen from AMD.

Intel support deals with installing a CPU into a socket and tell me that the best place to ask about Intel XEON 5492 CPU support in Windows 10 is the company (Microsoft) that develops and maintains Windows 10.

I am quite exhausted of the traditional Microsoft run-around.
