    Cannot access EFS after Windows Reinstallation


    Hello,In my previous Windows setup, I used the “Encrypt contents to secure data” option to encrypt some of my files with the Encrypting File System EFS. Recently, I formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows, which resulted in the loss of my previous EFS keys and certificates. Now, I am unable to access my encrypted files.D

    Win 10 pro EFS Encrypting File System Problem (Dell)

    I suggest you to start the Encrypting File System (EFS) Service and check if it helps.

    Follow the below steps:

    • Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.
    • Type services.msc and hit Enter.
    • Search for Encrypting File System (EFS) Service.
    • Double click on Encrypting File System (EFS) Service and click on
      Start button.
    • Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to
      Automatic.

    The instructions on the http://blog.windowsserversecurity.com/2015/01/28/step-by-step-guide-to-efs-recovery/ site have previously
    been found and went through it, but nowhere in Windows 10 could I find Server Manager - Adding Roles and Features - a role-based or feature-based installation ... and so on ... and so further
