  1. Cannot access file history settings

Upon trying to carry out a backup for the first time in several months I experienced the issue below.

    • Delay in access the Backup area of Settings
    • No toggle switch or options available under file history section
    • If follow the 'more options' link I get two choices advanced options and restore files
      • Advanced options does nothing when clicked
      • restore files takes me to a notice that file history is turned off but clicking the link to configure settings does nothing
    • Various different approaches to try and access file history or switch on via control panel have no effect. At one point it did generate the the error message <failed to initiate user data backup error80070005>
    • Have made sure the system is up to date and restarted several times

Operating as an administrator account on Windows 10 Home 20H2

On searching the community I did find the link below which appeared to have some similar issues and was related to a file in KB4601319 - although it is not listed as a known issue in the release notes. There was some advice in rolling back the update but I was hoping there might be a more official fix or work around available.

    Cannot access file history settings

File History not backing up any files

    Hello Victor

Thank you for the response. I had already checked that thread, but it hasn't helped me:

    • The thread deals with Windows 8's implementation of File History, which is somewhat different to that of Windows 10.
    • Most of the thread deals with setting up File History (which I have already done, precisely following the recommended steps). The third link in the thread might have been useful since it appears to link to a page that deals with troubleshooting File History
(as opposed to setting it up), but unfortunately the link is dead.
Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
