Windows 10: Cannot access Manage Settings in Virus & Threats menu to make exclusions for windows defender

Allowing a threat in Windows Defender.

To add a file exclusion to Windows 10:

• Press Windows key and type Windows Defender. Press Enter.
• Choose Virus & threat protection.
• Choose Virus & threat protection settings.
• Then, Add or remove exclusions.
• Press the plus sign next to Add exclusion.
• Choose File.
• Navigate to the file and choose it to add the exclusion.

Note: It is not recommended under most circumstances to add an exclusion unless you know it is not malware.

 

Exclusion folder and Aggressive Anti-Virus

In Defender select Virus and threat protection and select Virus& threat protection settings - manage settings. Scroll down to Controlled folder access and 'manage Controlled folder access'. Now you can turn it off here (not recommended) or you can select ' Allow an app through controlled folder access'. In the new window select '+ Add an allowed app' then 'browse all apps'. Usually newly downloaded apps are in the downloads folder so navigate there and select the app. Takes longer to write how-to than to actually do it.

Windows says that to access controlled folder access, I have to have real time protection turn on, and the slider looks like it's on, but if I turn it to off, it pop back over to on
