    Cannot access my hotmail account

Ah, correct, that's the PE whatever rescue disk. I have a couple of rescue disks.

I already did a clean install and no good, I am still tied to that email. I restored an image now and I am back to where I was anyway.

I found that I can used a local account, make it an Admin account then this account make it a standard one, then I guess I can erase it, but how can I transfer some of the files and programs, setting etc to the new admin. All except the fact that I have to use that email?

  2. As an admin you should be able to access the other users folders. You could be prompt that you need to be admin.

If that doesn't work then you need to take ownership of the original user files.

When you did clean install you missed the turn that has you setting up local account.

Were you able to call MS? Did you contact support any other way. I can't believe you can't prove its your mail account. Having that long you would know all about iy.

    Hello Ken:

Well that's exactly the problem. My Admin account is tied up to my email, so every time I need to get into something important I am asked for the password that's tied to my email. The password to sign into the computer is another one....

    It is crazy.

I called but after a while of menus and what not, anything pertaining a password is dealt online. Catch 22.

    Incredible!

    Thank you for your help...

Have you tried copying a folder from your old Admin account to new. Once copied into new location there should be no more requests for passwords.

When you say the password you sign into computer with is different, is this your new local admin password?

I guess there is so many password requests they can't deal with them on phone. Seems to me to be a business opportunity, charge people who want to talk, or who need to talk as because it is really important.

I assume you have left this account alone for a period of time. You might want to try to sign in again if there has been a suitable break and answer the questions / code prompts.

Don't do to many, just one pass.

Hmmm I don't even know how to do that. I created a new account, which I gave admin privileges. Then I tried to remove the account that was giving me problems, but it warned me that all of the files including downloads and whatever else were going to be erased along with the account. So I decided not to do that and I reversed everything to the way it was without the extra account etc.

I guess I can always have all of my files backed up, which I have, erase that old account and re-install everything I had in that bothersome account. But I am afraid something might go wrong and not be able for windows 10 to recognize me as a legitimate owner and ask me what was the email associated with it and not be able to provide the correct password... as I said Catch 22 :/

    Anyway...

Cannot access my hotmail account [IMG]
This is the opening of the computer. This password is different to the one account that is tied to my email account.

Cannot access my hotmail account [IMG]
This is my info in the accounts settings. See? The same name as in the computer log in. This is what I don't or didn't understand... both are different passwords. I said I didn't understand and I still don't but I found out that using the NET USER command in the CMD it appeared the other name which is what I assigned my computer to a long time ago. That one is the one that's associated with my email and *main* admin account. That name does not appear in the "Your Info" screen of the accounts settings, see?

    I was thinking about that....

Yes, and I did this just a moment ago before login in here. *Smile

    We'll see what happens.

I signed into the testing preview of windows 10 a year before it was officially released. Later I claimed ownership of it as instructed within the year of being released so it was for free as promised. I might have a different set of circumstances around this issue in contrast to a person who bought their copy later on.

Also, this computer came with windows Vista originally. I upgraded to windows 7 and then later got into testing windows 10.

I hope I have provided more info on this *password* thing.

    Hello again Ken

I received the following from them:

"Your security is important to us
Recently, we received several requests to gain access to L: XXXXXXX@hotmail.com. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your ownership using the information that was provided. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of our customers very seriously. We are committed to protecting your personal information, and our careful account recovery process is intended to protect you from any possible malicious activity.

    Now what?
Because there have been multiple unsuccessful recovery attempts for this account, we recommend at this point that you create a new account. It's quick and easy, and we have tools to help you import contacts, connect with Facebook, and even receive messages from multiple email accounts.

    > Open a new account

With a new account, you’ll be able to use the following services across all of your devices:

Best-in-class email with unlimited storage at lightning speed and serious security.
Stay connected with friends and family, see social updates and chat with Facebook friends, and make ordinary moments memorable with video calls.
Free online storage for thousands of docs and photos, shared your way.

    Don’t get locked out again
Once you create a new account, we highly recommend you update your password reset information with a phone number or alternate email address. This will make it easier for you to gain access to your account in the future if you are locked out again.

    > Open a new account

    Thank you"

What a pity, I have bill receipts there etc, 25 or so years worth of info, even from jobs I've had....

Incredible the stance that MS has adopted. I guess my next computer is going to be a Mac....not that I will not problems, but I guess I will have more intelligent help from them.

Thank you Ken for all of your help. I hope there was a way to talk to them about this.

  7. Okay this is not a Windows thing, this is an Outlook mail thing. I don't understand how you failed the recovery process. I'd call the business office or who ever and tell them you need to speak to someone. Be forceful but polite. One last link to work through.

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...9-8c650bc2ef36

When setting up a new account I really recommend the cell phone for texting codes. It will call home phones as well although coverage is spotty where I live, never understood that. Then add an alternate email account to the new account in case you can't use code. This is for gmail, outlook, Yahoo or iCloud. The accounts are free. Then however you manage tasks, mine are automated, perform sign ins to keep alternate addresses active, say every six months.

As to copying files and folder. You access the folder or file you want to copy. Right click on it, click on copy, navigate back to your new user folders, right click when you are in correct position, click paste.

Your machine has been fingerprinted by the MS servers. When you clean install do not use an online account (email), go offline (the word they seem to be using today). Give it a name, a password and carry on.

If you are concerned you can Image your existing machine using Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and member recommended. If you can't install Windows 10 clean then restore from this backup.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

    Cannot access my hotmail account

There is a couple of things.
    1) For the sake of simplicity sign on to Windows 10 with a Local Account(Administrator). That gets one thing out of the way.
The reason being that you are having problems with an MS/Hotmail/Outlook Mail Account. That needs sorting.

You are throwing various other things in to the mix that are nothing to do with that.

    2) How many MS/Hotmail/Outlook Mail Accounts do you have, you seem to be implying you now have 2. Is that correct.

Again thank you Ken for your help and patience.

Calling them again like you say could work, but I just sent them an email outlined in the link you provided. I am going to go through that first before trying another call.

I don't have a phone number. I just have internet and that's enough for me and my needs. Besides, I have never like to have everything in one place.

I will have to meddle with that later on, But I am not sure I am understanding you. If I make another user whether it is an admin or local account, the way I understand is that windows will make another desktop linked to that user and you you cannot see the others files...I might be wrong on this though. Like I said, I will deal with this later on.

I don't have a disk or anything to do a clean install as you would understand it. I need to see if out of my copy I can make a bootable disk where I could really make a clean installation. Only the clean installation offered through the settings

That the program of choice I've used for at least 2 years. *Smile

Thank again. I will keep you posted about what happens with the email I sent them.

  11. You can download this tool and run it. (Double click)

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

It will make a USB key with a full version of Windows 10. If you navigate to key and run setup it does in place repair and upgrade. If you boot you can run repairs or clean install.

    Read the tutorials.

If you don't want to validate with phone use an alternate email address. Test it regularly so it stays active. One strategy is to send junk stuff its way so the account get mail. Then when you need to validate it it there.

Thank you for the link. I was sure there must be tools to do that. I need to find out if Windows 10 installed in my machine will be able to do the disk...

I haven't dealt with this type of things for a long time...since windows XP.

I am all for RTFM *Wink

Yes. But isn't it funny the way MS applies logic in this case? It asks you for an "alternate" email address, but if you don't check it, it becomes useless. Like saying you make a copy of your house key and place under the mat. But when the times comes to use use because you lost your original key, the copy is not functional anymore because of lack of use...Typical case of "programmers" *thinking* *092

Thanks again Ken. I'll keep you posted.

    Cannot access my hotmail account

    Hello again Ken:

I finally have my email back. Thank you so much for that email address. When I came back from Texas I tried to log in and my password was good again...

I guess all that email exchange talking about my account did it.

I also got my clean install I wanted with another name and no email attached to that. So I am happy.

    Thanks again.
