Windows 10: cannot access new computer on home network

I have a home LAN with three Windows 10 PCs that are sharing files & folders among themselves with no problem - I just click their PC name under Network in File Explorer. Problem is, I just set up a new Win 10 PC but when I click on that new PC's name under Network in File Explorer on any of the existing three PCs I get an error msg saying I don't have permission to access the new PC.


I made the new PC discoverable and public and not pwd-protected, just like the other three. I set up the Documents folder in the new PC to be shared by Everyone with Full permissions. All four PCs are running Win 10 ver. 2004. All are wired Ethernet desktop PCs except one existing PC is a Wi-Fi laptop.


This situation is weird because everything works fine when I go to the Search box next to the Start icon on any of the other PCs and type \\NewPC\Users\UName\Documents\. The same good result occurs when I set up a shortcut targeting \\NewPC\Users\UName\Documents\.


There is no hardware/connectivity problem because the new PC is seen by all the othersand I can access the shared Documents folder\files in either of the two ways just described.

Am I missing a setting, or something else? Thank for any help.

One computer cannot access other network computers.


So I've tried every troubleshooting step I know:

• Double checked that Net Bios was enabled
• Ran a bunch of network commands:
  • flushed DNS
  • registered dns
  • pinged and located the named computers successfully
• Reset my router to factory settings

Nothing works when I try to access via explorer. I'm still baffled by the fact that every other computer can access each other AND access this computer. It's just the outgoing connection from this machine that doesn't work.

Any thoughts?

Network permission is one of the possible reasons why you can't access a drive within a network. To better assist you, we the answers to the following questions:

• Are you working with computers connected to a domain?
• Did you make any changes on your computer prior to the issue?

In the meantime, we suggest following the steps below to troubleshoot Shared Folders in Windows 10:

• On the Cortana search box, type Troubleshoot
  and select the first result.
• Scroll down and click on Shared Folders.
• Click the Run the troubleshooter button.

Can't access drives on computers on network

I am on a new HP Pavilion laptop running Windows 10. I also have the following on my network, sharing the same domain.

• Laptop running Windows 7
• Laptop running Windows 10
• Desktop running Windows XP
• HP Deskjet printer

I can see the laptops and the printer on the network, and I can access and use the printer. But I cannot access the laptop drives. I am asked for the name and password for each device, but when entered, they are not accepted

What suggestions can you offer?
