Windows 10: Cannot access PC or email after updating recovery phone number.

My girlfriend was updating her MS account and changed the recovery phone number. It now doesn't allow her to use her pin, and when she attempts to log in using her password, it says that she must wait 30 days before she's able to log in again. And doesn't provide an option to change accounts. That's kinda crazy, especially because there's no warning ahead of time that it would render her computer completely unusable for a month, just because she updated her security settings. There doesn't seem to be any options for using a local or offline account like in previous versions.When researching so

Microsoft account and phone number linked

Microsoft account password recovery requires two verification codes being sent using two different verification methods. Each Microsoft account has at least two verification methods, the phone number and additional email address which are asked and required when you set up a new Microsoft account with a new hotmail.com or outlook.com email or using a third party email.

When the thief who got your phone tries to recover your password, all your verification methods / security info phone numbers and email addresses will be listed for him to select one. OK, the thief naturally selects your phone number, gets the code sent as a text message, and enters it.

But, clicking Next after entering the code he needs to select another security info contact (phone / email) from the list to receive second verification code.

Password recovery is not possible with just your phone, the system is clever enough to make it impossible by requiring two codes being sent to two different phones and / or emails.

You can add as many phone numbers and email address as you wish as security info contacts at https://account.live.com/proofs/mana...&refp=security. I wholeheartedly recommend that you add at least another security email address; if you only have one phone number and one email added, those which were required when you set up the Microsoft account, and that thief got your phone, the recovery would be as impossible to you as it is to him, you both having access to just one of required two verification methods.

 

Google Apps Password Problem? Unauthorized Entry Into PCs & Phones

I'm unfamiliar with such an app. In any event I'm sure the answer is a complete review of her account profile and likely the removal of this app. Sure it is not the authenticator app that gives you six digit codes.

Sign into your sister email on a computer. In the upper right is either her picture or a character representing her name right beside the nine dots. Click once on this and then click google account. On the left of the page that opens click security.

Then go through and change password, enable two step verification using her cell as the number. When offered to generate 10 new backup codes do so to cancel out old codes that may have been generated.

Blow away all app passwords.

Then open recovery phone and make sure the correct numbers are there.

Same with recovery email, make sure only the email accounts she wants are list. (Be sure he doesn't have access to this recovery account)





Scroll down and go through each section like your devices, aps with access, etc.

Pay attention to other accounts like her Playstore account or other accounts where they may ask security questions or birthdates.

I would enable two step everywhere with her cell as the verify text number.

As to the windows device it might be time for a clean install. I would carefully scan list of installed apps. Start > Settings >apps.

Once this is all completed you may need to generate an app password to use in email on phone. Generate it on this same page.

• Windows Crash, Reinstalled it using USB. Store passwords are lost and don't remember them.
  
• MS-Account: Recovery email is deleted because google warning of suspicious activities, so I thought its hacked or something. Didn't add a phone number so can't reacover it by that.
