Windows 10: Cannot Activate or Buy a New Version of Windows 10

I apologize if this is a bit long-winded, but I want to make all the details of my predicament clear in case any of them are important.I built a new PC from scratch, and transferred none of my data from the old one, and signed into my Microsoft account to purchase and activate Windows 10 Home for that PC. Shortly after, I swapped out my motherboard, and then Windows told me that hardware of my device has changed, and I would need to activate windows again. I selected 'Troubleshoot' and then 'I changed the hardware on this device recently', but I got an error saying it could not connect to the

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?

 

would my windows stay activated in this setup or do i need to buy new?

so its a scam? or thats why the listing says you have to call and re activate or something?
