Windows 10: Cannot Activate Windows 10 Despite Having Product Key

Dear Microsoft Support,


I recently built a brand new computer and purchased Windows 10 Home on a USB Drive to install once I finished my build. I purchased the official software from Amazon. I inserted the USB drive into the port upon bootup and was able to install Windows 10 seemingly without incident. However, when I tried to adjust my personalization settings, I received a message stating that I had not activated Windows 10. I tried following the help guidance, went to settings, and attempted to activate Windows using my product key, but I keep getting a message that I cannot activate Windows on the device because I do not have a valid digital license or product key. 0x803f7001. I do not understand how I can install Windows 10 with a valid product key only to have it subsequently rejected when I try to activate it on my new computer.


Making matters worse, when I try to use the Virtual Assistant it cannot recognize the error code and tells me to call Microsoft Help. I call Microsoft help and it then directs me to go to the website and use the Virtual Assistant. I've been going around in circles for hours.


Any assistance would be greatly appreciate. I would hate to have to purchase a brand new product key or abandon my new computer due to this issue.

Activate windows 10 after re-installing (I have lost my product key)

I own a Lenovo T430 laptop. In 2017, I installed Windows 10 using my original Windows 7 product key. Unfortunately, I cannot find that product key anymore. I need to re-install windows 10. Will it be automatically activated after the installation, if I skip the step of asking the product key during the installation?

In my opinion, I believe that my laptop will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers and this will not be a problem. Is that true?

If not, please suggest me a solution or a workaround.

 

Installing Windows 10 using Windows 7 key

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.
