Windows 10: Cannot allow anything through Winblows Firewall

    Cannot allow anything through Winblows Firewall


    Hello, Winblows Firewall never seems to work for me the way it does for everyone else.


    I have a Filezilla FTP server running on my local Winblows 10 machine in active mode.

    I can see that port 21 is open using nmap command "nmap -p 21 127.0.0.1", so the

    next step is of course to allow connections to this server via the firewall. I am only

    looking to allow connections within my LAN, I don't care about external networks,

    so port forwarding has nothing to do with this.


    I've allowed both the application itself, and ports 20 and 21 through my firewall, and

    yet when I check to see if port 21 is open from another machine on my local network,

    it is not. If I disable the firewall, it shows as open, so I know it's a problem with the firewall.


    Here are the allow rules I added to my firewall that I believe should be working, but aren't.


    Inbound FTP 20

    Inbound FTP 21

    Inbound FTP "C:\Program Files x86\FileZilla Server\FileZilla Server.exe"


    Outbound FTP 20

    Outbound FTP 21

    Outbound FTP "C:\Program Files x86\FileZilla Server\FileZilla Server.exe"


    Any ideas why this isn't working? Thanks :

    Allow an app through Windows Firewall

    I request you to try the below steps:

    • Right click on Start menu icon.
    • Select Control Panel.
    • Now select Windows Firewall.
    • Select "Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall" from left hand side pane.
    • Select the app which you want to allow.

    Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:


    • Does the issue persists with a particular program?

    • Did you check if you are facing similar issue when you allow other programs through the firewall?


    I suggest you to check if similar issue persists if you allow other program to allow through the firewall and when on reboot the program is disabled.



    If the issue persists, I suggest you to contact the program developer and check with the program settings.

    From the resulting list, choose 'Windows Defender Firewall'

    That will open the Firewall section of the old Control Panel

    On the left, click 'Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall' to begin the process . . .
